The Erie Otters have sent a trio of players to this year's World Junior Championship, the most well-known of the three being Team Canada center, Connor McDavid. But Team Sweden sports the other two Otters taking part in this tournament, with one of them being forward Andre Burakovsky.
Burakovsky, a Washington Capitals prospect, has had a fine season so far for the greatly improved Otters of the OHL. In 31 games so far in the 2013-14 campaign, Burakovsky has scored 23 goals and added 24 assists for 47 points while sporting a healthy +19 rating.
Sweden faced a tough opponent on the first day of the 2014 WJC as they defeated Switzerland, 5-3, to get off on the right foot as the host team. The Swiss played the Swedes fairly evenly over the course of the contest, but the other Erie Otter at this tournament, goaltender Oscar Dansk, made sure that his team came away victorious. For his part, Burakovsky chipped in an assist on the game-winning goal by defenseman and fellow Capitals' prospect, Christian Djoos.
Burakovsky spoke with Hockey's Future following the win over Switzerland, which is captured in this HF video.
